About Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Publisher was originally intended to be an inexpensive alternative to the more costly, professional page layout applications like Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress. It was designed to do simple jobs to be printed at home or a home office. Over time it has been upgraded by Microsoft to do a little more complicated work. For this reason, if you use Publisher, make sure you are using the most recent version if you want to use it for higher-quality output. Some very important features are missing in the older versions and the upgrades are not expensive.

Pack and Go

The “Pack and Go” feature in Publisher allows you to package your project for sending it to a commercial printer. Here are the basic steps for “Pack and Go” in Publisher: Under “File” select “Pack and Go”. Then select “Take to a commercial printing service”. Follow the Wizard and select all the options that are available. This will create 3 or 4 files. Send all of them to us along with a final FAX or hardcopy print out of your file for us to proof against. Again, be sure to keep Publisher up to date.

Call us

If you are beginning a project in Microsoft Publisher to have us print, call us first. We would be happy to explain some of the “ins” and “outs” of the program when used for prepress work which can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Publisher files can move through our process without problems if a few guidelines are followed.
